Cleaning Your Sofa Upholstery

Your sofa is one of the most used pieces of furniture in your house.  It is very easy to get stains on it, especially if you have children and pets.  To get stains out and keep your sofa looking nice, it is important that you do upholstery cleaning Ajax at least twice a year.  With stains, you should try to get them out immediately after they happen.  Your sofa is the place where it seems like all the dirt, dust, and stains accumulate.  Yes, your sofa is a large structure and can be hard to clean but it is not impossible.  Using steam is one of the ways that you can clean the upholstery on your sofa.  It is a quick and effective way to get this job done.

To clean your sofa’s upholstery, you will need the following:

Clean cloths Vacuum cleaner Special fabric stain remover Brush

If you have a sofa that is covered in delicate fabric or a tough stain that you cannot get out, consult a professional to clean your upholstery.  Before you start cleaning, if it is up against the wall or near any other furniture, move it away from the wall and make sure that it is easy to get around it.  Using the vacuum cleaner, clean your sofa to get rid of any mites and dust that can live on your sofa.  Be sure that you are vacuuming every corner of the sofa.  Remove all cushions or anything that is on the couch.  You will also need to vacuum the cushions.  Use the accessory tool to get down in all the crevices.

This is a very important part of cleaning your sofa’s upholstery so make sure that you have done it right.  It has to be totally cleaned, no matter how long it takes.  Once this is done, check the upholstery for any stains.  Use the fabric stain remover following the directions, and leave it on for a few minutes so it soaks down into the stain.  Use the clean cloth to rub the stain gently to get out the stain.  If it is not completely out, you will have to reapply the fabric stain remover and leave it on just a little longer.

After you have the tough stains out, it is time to steam clean the sofa’s upholstery.  If you do not have a steam cleaner, you may be able to rent one.  Some vacuum cleaners have steam accessories.  When steam cleaning your sofa, use clean water vapor and make sure you read the instructions before attempting this step. If you have removable slipcovers, take them off before steam cleaning your couch.  Wash them according to the directions.  You should not put them in a dryer because they can shrink.  It is best to wash them in cold water, mild laundry detergent, and let them air dry.  Put them back on when slightly damp to make it easy to get them on.  If you do not want to do all this, use a professional upholstery cleaning North York company.
